Policy Briefs

Policy Brief 1: Biocultural Indicators
Policy Brief 2: Livelihoods, Food Sovereignty, Health, and Well-Being
Policy Brief 3: Information and Communications Technologies
Policy Brief 4: Territorial Defense in Extractive Contexts
Background

This series of policy briefs draws on the presentations and discussions held at the joint CICADA-ICCA Consortium Regional Meeting of Indigenous and Research Partners from Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand as well as the first North American Dialogue on Biocultural Diversity, complemented by relevant literature.

These policy briefs are knowledge mobilisation and advocacy tools that address different aspects of biocultural diversity conservation and provide policy recommendations in line with the Atateken Declaration, drafted during the Dialogue. The Declaration is hosted on the website of the Joint Programme between UNESCO and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) “Linking Biological and Cultural Diversity” and served as an information document to two CBD meetings held in November 2019 in Montreal.

CICADA also collaborated with the Canadian Commission for UNESCO on a blog post to explain the concept of biocultural diversity and to promote the Atateken Declaration to a wider audience (available here).
